Raising German Shepherd Puppies: What It’s Really Like

At Sable Shepherd Farms, we are surrounded every day by wagging tails, curious noses, and those unforgettable puppy eyes. Raising German Shepherd puppies isn’t just about feeding and cleaning – it’s about carefully guiding the start of a lifelong journey with their future families.

The First Few Weeks

In the early weeks, puppies stay close to their mother, where warmth and nutrition are most important. We keep their space clean, quiet, and safe so they grow strong and healthy.

Growing Curiosity

By about four to six weeks, the puppies begin showing personality. Small barks, playful wrestling, and clumsy exploring all begin at this stage. This is when we introduce them to different sounds, textures, and gentle handling – the foundation of good socialization.

Learning Through Play

Playtime is a big part of development. Puppies learn coordination, boundaries, and build confidence through play with toys, littermates, and people. It also builds the bond they’ll carry into their new homes.

Building Healthy Habits

At six to eight weeks, we begin weaning from mom’s milk to solid food. This helps their digestion and growth while also starting them on feeding routines. We also introduce short crate sessions, early potty routines, and handling exercises so they adjust easily later on.

Preparing for Forever Homes

By the time our puppies are ready to go home, they have:

CKC registration
A full vet check and health guarantee
Early socialization with people, sounds, and environments
Confidence to begin their new journey

Our Promise

At Sable Shepherd Farms, our puppies are raised with love, patience, and attention. We give them the best start possible so they can grow into loyal, confident, and healthy German Shepherds for their new families.
